In the past couple of weeks, some unfortunate Xbox 360 users have started up their Xbox only to figure out that their Xbox Live accounts have been banned by Microsoft. However, there is good reason for these people to have their accounts banned. Many gamers have altered their consoles in order to have the ability to play pirated game discs. This mass banning by Microsoft is going to be their form of punishment. A spokesperson explained:
“We have taken action against a small percentage of consoles that have been modified to play pirated game discs. In line with our commitment to combat piracy and support safer and more secure gameplay for the more than 20 million members of our Xbox Live community, we are suspending these modded consoles from Xbox Live.”
For those of you who are using a modified Xbox 360, you now know what danger you are in. So do not be surprised if you receive this ban soon. If you are one of the unlucky people that have been caught, you have hopefully learned your lesson and that you will never alter a console or steal a game again. This approach was a good one for Microsoft.
