On Tuesday, Xbox Live definitely took a “beating” from its’ users. If you were to guess, you would think that it happened with a major multiplayer game being released on that day. Oh yeah, Tuesday is the day that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 finally released. As a result of this huge title coming out, Xbox Live received its’ biggest day ever for the most people online in a day. This launch of Activision and Infinity Ward’s shooter game brought more than two million gamers playing simultaneously for this game.
“Tuesday was the biggest day we have ever seen on Live,” said Dennis Durkin, COO of Microsoft’s interactive entertainment business during a financial presentation the BMO Capital Markets “Digital Entertainment Conference” in New York this afternoon. “[It's a] landmark event for our industry,” added Dennis Durkin.
In a run up to the launch of Modern Warfare 2, Microsoft prepared for a very large amount of users to be active at the same time. However, having over two million people is, I’m sure, more than they ever expected.
