In the past couple of years, Treyarch and Infinity Ward have each made different iterations inActivision’s Call of Duty franchise. But as the Los Angeles Times reports, Activision has now added in a third studio to help with the work of “future versions” of the Call of Duty series.
As for the new studio, it has not been announced just yet, and nobody is quite sure what the future might hold for this series in terms of whether or not it will be expanding past its first-person shooter roots. However, a pretty reliable source thats close to Activision told the Los Angeles Times that a Call of Duty MMO still had a possibility. The start of the gossip that regards this drastic shift for the series dates all the way back to last year so this recent news is not terribly surprising. As for figuring out the mystery studio which will be behind these future Call of Duty games, that will be discovered in time I suppose.
Of course as we all know, Activision did just recently unveil its brand new Sledgehammer Games Studio. This studio was supposedly made to work on a new game that is based on an existingActivision property, so maybe this is the secret third studio. However, it still remains a mystery.
