With the release of Bungie’s Halo 3: ODST today, this will probably be just enough to move at least a couple Xbox 360s in the next few weeks. However, something else will be even more responsible for this. That is cold, hard cash. A recent decision has been made regarding the price of the Xbox 360 Elite. Microsoft has announced that anybody who buys an Xbox 360 Elite between now and October 5th, 2009, will be able to receive a $50 mail-in rebate. The current sale price is $299. However, with this rebate you can get it for only $250.
I believe that there is a reason that is sparking this recent decision. This reason is that Microsoft is attempting to steal some of Sony’s Tokyo Game Show crowds by using a limited time offer. In the next few weeks, if Microsoft is able to steal just one potential PlayStation 3 buyer, then I believe that they will have accomplished their mission. With Halo 3: ODST and the recent $50 rebate, the next few weeks will most likely provide Microsoft a huge hardware boost sale that Sony will not currently be able to match.
With the Xbox360 only costing $250 now, do you think that Sony will counter this deal with a similar or even better deal?
