It was recently announced by Microsoft that the official code of conduct for the Xbox Live service has changed. Now, in gamertags and profiles, users are able to express their sexual orientation. This announcement was made by Stephen Toulouse, who is the Xbox Live director of policy, on Twitter.
Some people could have trouble finding their term out of the included terms. Stephen Toulous explains, “We’re still sweeping the system for variations of the words so it might not be for a few days that all spellings, phrases, etc are done.”
Marc Whitten, who is the Xbox Live general manager, sent out a letter explaining how the updated terms of service will “allow our members to more freely express their race, nationality, religion and sexual orientation.” Along with this update, there will be conduct revisions with “increased stringency and enforcement to prevent the misuse of these terms.”
Last year, Microsoft found itself in the middle of a controversy after there were a bunch of different bans to gamers and their gamertags. Microsoft had to figure out a way to give gamers the ability to express themselves with out having the fear of being harassed by the other users.
