Microsoft Points are essential to purchase many different things in the Xbox Live Marketplace. First of all, there are three different levels of microsoft points codes. There is the 1,600 microsoft points code, a 2,100 microsoft points code which is used in the UK, and a 4,000 microsoft points code. Other random amounts are given away in offers such as the recent buy a 1,600 microsoft points card, get 400 free microsoft points as a bonus. They have these quite frequently if you check your Xbox.com email address for updates on these offers. The prices for the microsoft points codes are as follows. The 1,600 microsoft points code is $20 USD. A 2,100 microsoft points code is £17.00. A 4,000 microsoft points code is $50. As you can tell it’s kind of expensive to get microsoft points to use in the Xbox Live Marketplace so you’ll want to make sure that when you decide to purchase something that you are making the right choice. I’ll outline some of the things that I’ve bought in the past that I think are worth it, and then send you to the Xbox Live Marketplace so you can check it out for yourself.

Game expansions are the primary reason for my purchasing microsoft points. They add additional features to games that I have already paid $60 to play, sometimes adding hours of gameplay to the game. Oblivion and Fallout 3 add new areas, quests, and weapons for you when you purchase the expansions, not to mention the max level is increased. Halo, Call of Duty, and Gears of War map packs come out with great consistency. The Halo map packs aren’t exactly the most amazing, but they add some variety and they are eventually required to play some of the better gametypes. Call of Duty usually has solid map packs and in Call of Duty 5 they even came with additional Nazi Zombie maps! Again, these are eventually required in order to play certain gametypes so you might as well buy them sooner than later. I bought the Gears of War map packs on the original game. They added some amazing maps to the game! Sadly, Gears of War 2 was a bust so I didn’t waste my time or microsoft points on the game.
Arcade games do provide some amount of entertainment. NHL 2009 Arcade is a great example of this. This basic 3 on 3 NHL arcade game features some unique power ups, fast paced hockey action, and hours of fun. It’s completely worth it. Following this example, Madden 2010 came out with an arcade game too which is similar to the old school NFL Blitz (nowhere near as good). It to is great fun though. I also downloaded Uno simply so I could use my Xbox Live Vision Camera. It’s Uno, what can I say about it? Finally, there is Marble Blast Ultra. It’s a basic game, something you’ve probably played on the internet many times before. I wouldn’t really recommend it to you, but if you’re a fan of this style of game maybe you’d enjoy playing it on the Xbox 360.
I’ve never really paid for anything for my avatar, for a theme, or any type of movie or song on the Xbox Live Marketplace. The reason for that is, why would I? I mean, I could rent the movie or buy the DVD for about the same price. Music would can be played on the Xbox if you just put the CD in or hook up an iPod. My theme doesn’t matter as I spend so little time on the dashboard, and what point is there in buying something for a digital avatar? Personally, I save my microsoft points for things that I’ll enjoy.
That’s about it. I suggest you look up videos of gameplay of arcade games on YouTube before purchasing the full version with your microsoft points. If you just love playing all different types of games and want to download many different things you should probably look into getting free microsoft points. There is a way to do this, obviously, that it what this blog is about. Simply go to the home page and you can read the process of getting free microsoft points.
